Portal to Flatland

by Magenta Field

Light and spatial audio installation.

Portal to Flatland by Magenta Field is designed to invite visitors from the mayhem of a music festival into a tunnel of transmutation priming their senses for what lies beyond. Participants are drawn forward and pressed backward by both gradual and frenetic surges of light and sound. The audiovisual score is designed to softly invite visitors into the space and at its peak test their threshold. Following the crescendo, the visitors are propelled forward into a 70’ dome to experience the immersive projection of Flatland.

The installation incorporated a perspective mapped tunnel of LED light, and a rear projected wall at the end. Fourteen speakers stand behind the flanking walls spatially mapped to directly relate to the visuals. As light propels down the tunnel so does the sound, creating a wave of synesthetic experience over the audience.
